Le matériau de cette œuvre a été tourné sur plusieurs mois à Deheishe, un camp de réfugiés près de Bethléem, ainsi que dans la banlieue d'Hébron pendant l'été et l'automne 1998. Nous sommes allés interviewer des personnes dont les maisons avaient été démolies ou étaient menacées de démolition par le gouvernement israélien, comme c'est le cas pour beaucoup de réfugiés du camp. Des bribes de leurs histoires et des commentaires se mêlent à nos images, ainsi qu'à un court texte onirique écrit par Bosmat ALON. Celui-ci reflète la complexité de notre position en tant que témoins de la situation - tour à tour indiscrets, distants, étrangers ou coupables. Cependant, ce travail est surtout marqué par le silence pesant d'une attente permanente, d'un moment figé; une marge de non-manoeuvre.
The material for this work was shot in Deheishe, a refugee camp near Bethlehem, and in the Hebron surroundings, over a period of several months in the summer and fall of 98. During this period, we visited and interviewed people whose homes had been demolished or threatened to be demolished by the Israeli government, as is the case for many of the refugee camp dwellers. Fragments of their stories and comments are interwoven with the images we shot, and with a short dream-like text, written by Bosmat ALON, which reflects the complexity of our own stance as witnesses - either invasive, detached, foreign or guilty. The video is however mostly pervaded by the heavy silence of a continuous waiting, fixed moment, or room to non-maneuver.
