Un mur, traces enchevêtrées de constructions. Vient le soleil, percé d'oiseaux qui crient. Ombres charnues sur la prairie. Grillages. Mouvements avec morceaux de paysages emportés. La caméra s'emballe, images et sons pliés, basculés -Tour Eiffel mobile croisillonant tout jusqu'à l'abstraction, à peine une nervure, presqu'immobile. Un peu de silence et l'irruption d'un long plan large et plein, tel qu'il se donne.
Tournés avec les moyens les plus légers par les artistes envoyés ou invités par la France en Amérique du Sud, dans les républiques Baltes et à Paris, à l'occasion des festivals d'art vidéo qu'organise le Ministère des affaires étrangères et sans la moindre contrainte de forme ou de contenu afin de laisser jouer au mieux le dépaysement, l'incertitude de la rencontre, ces journaux de voyage peuvent bénéficier d'une postproduction sophistiquée. Il en résulte sur plus de 10 ans une étrange rapsodie de regards ...
La collection "Journaux de Voyage" est conçue et dirigée par Pascal-Emmanuel Gallet. Elle se compose de: Journaux Latino-Américains en France, Journaux Français en Amérique Latine, Journaux Français en Lettonie, et de Journaux Baltes en France.
A wall, tangled up traces of buildings. Then comes the sun, pierced by birds' cries. Plump shadows on the meadow. Wire netting. Movements with fragments of landscape blown away. The camera gets carried away, pictures and sounds are folded up and turned upside down - a moving Eiffel tower criss-crosses everything into abstraction, not even a vein, almost motionless. A little silence and the irruption of a long wide full shot, taken as such.
Shot with the lightest tools by artists sent or invited by France in Latin America, in the Baltic states or in Paris during the video-art festivals organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, those travel diaries were totally free as to form and content in order to leave full play to the feeling of strangeness and the uncertainties of encounters. They benefit from a sophisticated post-production. The result is a strange rhapsody of glances stretching over more than ten years. The collection "Journaux de Voyages" was conceived of and directed by Pascal-Emmanuel GALLET. It is divided into : French diaries in Latin America, Latin American diaries in France, French diaries in Latvia and Balt diaries in France.
