Né le 23 février 1961 à Caen. Stéphan Barron est un artiste contemporain et enseignant chercheur à l'université Paul Valéry, Montpellier III. Stéphan Barron a créé depuis 1984 de nombreuses œuvres qu’il a théorisées sous les deux termes d’art planétaire et de technoromantisme. Le technoromantisme, néologisme qu’il a créé, théorise les liens entre l’art et les nouvelles technologies dans le contexte des menaces que font peser les technosciences et le développement économique sur la nature. L’art planétaire est une forme d’art qui prend la Terre dans sa dimension planétaire comme support de création artistique. Fondateur du mouvement technoromantisme, il est l'un des premiers artistes français à avoir consacré son travail aux nouvelles technologies. Actif en France et à l'étranger, il a reçu une bourse de la Villa Médicis en 1996 pour Ozone, une installation planétaire sonore exposée à la Biennale d'Adelaïde. Ozone est une des premières œuvres d'art utilisant Internet. Artiste-théoricien, il a écrit de nombreux essais sur les nouveaux développements dans l'art contemporain. Son parcours dans la théorie et la pratique des arts technologiques et de l'art contemporain, a aussi une dimension dépassant le cadre de l'art en abordant des problématiques philosophiques, politiques et spirituelles.
