Il travaille tant en France qu'a l'étranger et notamment au Japon où il participe à de nombreux projets. Alain Escalle intervient dans des disciplines aussi diverses que le spectacle vivant, la recherche expérimentale ou narrative dans le domaine du cinéma et des images en mouvements (vidéo-danses, clips, fictions, etc...).
À contre-courant des formes narratives traditionnelles, il explore une esthétique poétique et sensible, ses films sont des paysages mentaux, denses et vibrants, où mémoire intime et mémoire collective se fondent.
Parmi ses œuvres marquantes :
- L'installation vidéo Le Radeau de la Méduse pour le Palais de Tokyo Paris
- Le Conte du monde flottant (2001), Grand Prix Imagina, inspiré de la mémoire d’Hiroshima et du Japon ancestral.
- Le Livre des morts (2013), une fiction métaphysique sur la Shoah, saluée par de nombreux festivals (Clermont-Ferrand, Busan, Giffoni).
- Final Gathering (2016) et Étreintes (2020), courts métrages mêlant image animée, danse et musique, où Alain Escalle signe l’ensemble des éléments visuels et sonores.
Créateur transdisciplinaire, Alain Escalle a travaillé avec :
- Peter Greenaway, en tant qu’assistant sur M or Man, Music and Mozart (BBC, 1991),
- Mylène Farmer, pour la direction artistique de ses projections de scène et le clip C’est dans l’air,
- Jean-Philippe Goude, pour une création musicale mêlant vidéo et concert,
Ses œuvres ont été projetées à Annecy, Sundance, Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand, Imagina et présentées dans des galeries et musées internationaux.
Visual artist and director Alain Escalle has been developing a hybrid visual universe for over twenty years, blending animation, video art, and visual arts.
From 1983 to 1989, Alain Escalle studied Applied Arts and Audiovisual. A digital image designer and director since 1991, he develops and prioritizes graphic and visual research on animated images using new technologies.
He works both in France and abroad, particularly in Japan, where he has participated in numerous projects. Alain Escalle works in disciplines than live performance, experimental or narrative research in the field of cinema and moving images (video-dances, clips, fictions, etc.).
Going against the grain of traditional narrative forms, he explores a poetic and sensitive aesthetic. His films are dense and vibrant mental landscapes, where intimate and collective memory merge.

The video installation The Raft of the Medusa for the Palais de Tokyo in Paris
The Tale of the Floating World (2001), winner of the Imagina Grand Prize, inspired by the memory of Hiroshima and ancestral Japan.
The Book of the Dead (2013), a metaphysical fiction about the Holocaust, acclaimed by numerous festivals (Clermont-Ferrand, Busan, Giffoni).
Final Gathering (2016) and Embraces (2020), short films combining animated images, dance, and music, for which Alain Escalle created all the visual and sound elements.
A transdisciplinary artist, Alain Escalle has worked with:
Peter Greenaway, as an assistant on M or Man, Music and Mozart (BBC, 1991);
Mylène Farmer, for the artistic direction of her stage projections and the music video "C'est dans l'air";
Jean-Philippe Goude, for a musical creation combining video and concert;
His works have been screened at Annecy, Sundance, Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand, and Imagina, and presented in international galleries and museums.
