Quick biography:

Born in 1966 in Saida in southern Lebanon, Akram Zaatari lives and works in Beirut. He began his career as an architect in Beirut. He earned a Masters in Media Studies at the New School in New York City. He returned to Lebanon in 1995 where he worked in the medium of television.

In 1997, he co-founded the Arab Image Foundation (AIF), a platform for the study of different photographic practices in the Middle East and North Africa that encourages collection practices and identifies more than 500 000 photographs . Akram Zaatari has shown her work in several solo and group exhibitions in MUAC (Mexico City), Tate Modern (London), the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (Doha), the Grey Art Gallery NYC (New York), at SFMOMA (San Francisco), the Haus der Kunst (Munich), or the Van Abbe Museum (Eindhoven). He recently participated in the dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 and won the 2011 Grand Prix and the Yanghyun Price Videobrasil 2011.
