SAVING THE MOTHERBOARD

of ZAREVAC Dragana, JELIC Margareta

SERBIA, 2018, 00:03:00

Production : ZAREVAC Dragana, JELIC Magareta
Genre : Video art
Keyword : Politics, Society, Allegory

Summary :
The musical composition POSTHUMAN assumes the term from Rosi Braidotti. Jelić and Žarevac use her theoretical text as a template for a new understanding of their own identity and the concept of humanity. They appropriate it for the song which they compose and perform. The composition is embedded in the video SAVING THE MOTHERBOARD, a performance in a form of a music-clip. The video was filmed in the building of the former State Printing Office built in 1937, an exceptional example of the modernist architecture which, in the successful period of self-managing socialism, functioned as the headquarters of BIGZ editions and printing. Deserted and visibly collapsed, the building forms an out-of-date scenography, condensing the connotations of modernism, socialism, humanism, and at the same time post-postmodernism, post-humanism, post-history, post-truth and post-apocalypse. In a simple narration that draws the contour of approaching, encounter, transmission of information represented as Motherboard signifying the data of human knowledge and culture, the authors mark the moment of transition to a new epoch seen as the time in which anti-unitarian subjects overcome an egocentric individualism by adopting posthuman ethics simultaneously being conscious of the post-anthropocentric harmony of everything.
(Text appropriated from the book Posthuman by Rosi Braidotti).
