This is how the narrative of THE MAN WHO LISTENS starts. It is a document and a diary on the world of sounds, an exploration of all the sounds that consitute our auditory world : music, language sounds, various everyday noises (whether natural or man-made). From a piece by Boulez to the tongue-clicking language of the Bushmen in Africa, from the chirruping of a shcool of shrimp to the imaginary sounds of our dreams, a single project drives the story forward : "I would like to understand everything I am listening to, how I hear it, why it's there."
THE MAN WHO LISTENS is a chronicle of the world of sounds, from Paris to New York, from Quebec to Marseilles. But it is also more of an inner journey into the world of thought : it dissects our hearing machine.
